The Editors of The International Tinnitus Journal (ITJ) are pleased to present in this issue advances that we consider significant, both from basic science and clinical medicine perspective, for the diagnosis and treatment of the tinnitus patient. We are also pleased to announce that all articles will be indexed by EmbaselExcerpta Medica and Chemical Abstracts (CAS). Their coverage will start retroactively with Volume 3. In addition to the regular articles, this issue will publish Part I of the papers presented at the 25th Anniversary Meeting ofthe Neurootological and Equilibriometric Society (NES), Bad Kissingen, Germany, March 19-22, 1998 and the International Tinnitus Forum (ITF), San Antonio, Texas, September 12, 1998. This issue will also publish the abstracts of the NES meeting. The International Tinnitus Journal is the official journal of NES. The remaining papers will be published as Part II in the next issue of The International Tinnitus Journal (Volume 5, Number 1, 1999). We hope that this current issue of The International Tinnitus Journal shows the current international developments and encourages future directions in tinnitus research worldwide, which will benefit the tinnitus patient.
